Lies, Lies & More Lies!

Posted by 2 on

According to the latest headlines of People, US, and Star Magazines:
  • Sandra Bullock is getting married to Ryan Reynolds although another magazine states Ryan is dating Olivia Wilde.
  • Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries’ marriage is already on the rocks.
  • Brad Pitt hates Jennifer Aniston’s new boyfriend, Justin Theroux.
Hasn’t the publication industry learned anything from the Rupert Murdoch scandal in Britain? I realize that phone tapping is a different issue but shouldn’t all magazines be held accountable for the information they print? Newspapers are held to a high standard but the same doesn’t seem to be true for celebrity magazines and tabloids. If I started making false claims about my products, Tail Wags Helmet Covers, I would quickly be fined or forced out of business. And that’s the way it should be! On the topic of misinformation, I recently heard about a few companies claiming their products are “Canadian Made” when, in fact, the owners live in Canada but manufacture overseas in China. The same is true of companies that claim their products are “environmentally friendly” but the only thing “green” about them is the colour of the packaging. It’s getting increasingly difficult to believe anything you read. Of course, I try to be an educated consumer but it’s hard to read every single label before purchasing. As a business owner, I am committed to providing accurate information and maintaining transparency in all of my interactions with customers. It’s the right thing to do and it makes me feel good about my business! Have you been mislead by a company? If yes, are you more hesitant to purchase again from them?

  • Etsy is an amazing resource for beautiful handmade Canadian work. I totally understand your frustration re: the stores being full of stuff from China.

  • I remember going to Hawaii on our honeymoon and being excited to bring home souviners for my niece and nephews…do you know how hard it was to find something that was actually made in Hawaii? All of the stuff that we considered purchasing came from China.
It is so hard to find products that are made IN CANADA which is why I’ve fallen in love with Etsy. At least I know that the handmade items were at least made by a Canadian.
