Kids Mimic Our Behaviour

Posted by 2 on

Progress has been made over the past few years. Increasingly kids are wearing safety helmets while skating, skiing and snowboarding and lives are being saved. But we can do better! There are still far too many preventable head injuries being sustained while tobogganing, biking, rollerblading, and skateboarding. Parents … It’s up to you to make sure your children are wearing helmets when active in the above sports. Remember a child’s best role model is you! If you want him to wear a helmet, you should wear one too. PLAY IT SAFE!

  • They most certainly do. My husband built an outdoor hockey rink in our…ummm…neighbors back yard….and they all went out and purchased used equipment INCLUDING helmets. I told my husband that there was no way in hell that he was going to skate without one!

  • When I tell parents that there are more head injuries tobogganing than there are while skiing & snowboarding they are shocked. I agree it’s something the media needs to start raising awareness about. I’ll keep trying to push the message too.
So sorry to hear your son has suffered 3 concussions but, thank goodness, he has a mom who is making sure he’s wearing his safety helmet now. Sometimes parents have to be the bad guys!
    Happy New Year!

  • My 14 year old has suffered 3 major concusssions in his life (he’s accident prone, I swear CFS has never had to come investigate!) Needless to say, when my kid is the only one tobogganning and snowboarding with a helmet, I’m the most unpopular mother in the neighbourhood. I just wish other parents would help me out in this and enforce this safety implementation. Great post!

  • I’ve written to editors of magazines & newspapers before to complain when they’ve posted images of people doing sports without their safety helmets. Some people call me the “helmet police”.
Just read your blog post about your sweet animal … please give him a big hug for me!
    Happy New Year.

  • My kids love to watch America’s Funniest Home Videos (also a guilty pleasure of mine) and I noticed recently how almost all the mishaps on bikes, skateboards, and the like, nobody is wearing a helmet! Gah! I’m hoping that means they’re all really old videos!
