The Ontario government is considering mandatory bike helmets for all bike riders. Currently the law only applies to people 18 years of age and under. (Legislation across Canada varies: helmet use is mandatory for everyone in British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI.) Ontario's chief coroner is pushing for this new legislation because of 129 cyclist deaths since 2006. The coroner found that 3/4's of the cyclists who died were not wearing protective headgear. Tail Wags Helmet Covers has consistently advocated for mandatory helmet laws yet there are some cycling advocate groups who suggest it should not be mandatory. What do you think? Mandatory or voluntary? I'd love to hear your opinion.
