Inspiration Behind Tail Wags Helmet Covers

Basic RGBThere are many layers to the story behind Tail Wags Helmet Covers but promoting safety was the number one motivator. The need to be creative and to work with my hands was paramount as well.  The Tail Wags story began almost 9 years ago when I was in a serious skiing accident. Without my safety helmet, I wouldn’t be alive today. This was long before helmet safety was receiving the attention it garners today because of tragedies like the death of Natasha Richardson, a celebrity actress who died after a minor fall on a ski hill while not wearing a helmet, as well as the absence of Sidney Crosby from hockey for over ten months because of repeated concussions.  Essentially, my accident and subsequent passion for promoting helmet safety, combined with my background in teaching and costume design encouraged me to come up with a way to make it FUN for kids and adults to wear their safety helmets.  Hence, Tail Wags Helmet Covers was born. It was 7 years ago when I created my first 5 designs including the Red Devil, Leopard, Bunny Rabbit, Beaver and Raccoon. These are still some of my most popular creations. What motivates me to keep creating more and more wild and wonderful designs? It’s my customers who keep the fire of my passion burning. Every time I receive a new customer photo, my heart soars. In fact, to celebrate Tail Wags 7th Anniversary and reward customers for the great photos they keep sending me, Tail Wags just initiated a “Strut Your Stuff” photo contest. Perhaps you’ve got a few photos of your kids or yourselves wearing your Tail Wags that you purchased online or at one of the many artisans shows Tail Wags attends each year? If yes, please share them in our contest for a chance to win $300.00 cash. Good luck!
