Last year was particularly awful for my family because both my son and I were diagnosed with cancer (at the same time)! My son had Hodgkins Lymphoma (stage 3) and I had breast cancer. The good news is we are both healthy and cancer free today.
I was contacted in September from a customer who participated in the The Big Move Cancer Ride on September 13th. She wanted hot pink helmet covers for each of her team mates to help them stand out as a unified group among the mass of cyclists riding that day. She told me about her dear friend who is undergoing a double mastectomy on the day after the ride ... her story brought tears to my eyes!
Unfortunately we ALL know people (friends and family members) whose lives have been turned upside down by cancer. There are a number of different events all focused on raising funds for cancer in the next few months:
- My son, Josh, is a team leader in the Light the Night Walk on October 21, 2015 in Toronto to help raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
- October is Breast Cancer Awareness month: In support, Tail Wags Helmet Covers is donating 50% of all online sales of our Nite Brite Pink Lightning helmet cover directly to the Princess Margaret Hospital (it's the hospital where my son and I received our cancer treatments).
- This year's Ride to Conquer Cancer was in July but it's not too late to sign up for next year's event.
Please feel free to add a link to your event in the comments below if you're involved in a cancer fundraiser.
