Tail-Wags Helmet Covers Blog — Dragon's Den

Setting the Record Straight

Posted by 2 on

I don’t want to sound ungrateful because the Second Chance airing on the hit CBC Dragons Den was incredible publicity for my business, Tail Wags Helmet Covers. The phone hasn’t stopped ringing, the orders are still pouring in (and it’s been one month since our air date), and the brand recognition of Tail Wags has skyrocketed. It’s impossible to pay for the kind of publicity national television (Dragons Den has a television audience of approximately 2 million viewers) can bring to small businesses. BUT … I want to set the record straight on 2 aspects of the Tail Wags episode...

The Secret is Out!

FINALLY I can talk about the Tail Wags Helmet Covers’ Dragons Den episode that aired last night. The segment was taped on Easter Sunday (April 24th, 2011) so that’s a long time to keep a secret. If you watched last night’s show, you’ll know Tail Wags was offered and accepted an offer from Bruce Croxon and Jim Treliving (Boston Pizza) for an investment of $100,000 in exchange for 30% of the Tail Wags business. Tail Wags Helmet Covers will be appearing for a 2nd time on the hit CBC TV show, The Dragon’s Den, on Wednesday, January 11th at 8 pm. Here are a few tidbits of information to wet your appetites before our airdate: Kevin O’Leary is wearing the Red Devil helmet cover. Couldn’t think of a more appropriate look for him! Arlene Dickinson has some wonderful news to share with all Canadians. As a previous Tail...

Big Mouths

This is my second blog post in a row on the theme of “Big Mouths” but I’m continually surprised and dismayed by celebrity people who regularly blurt out inappropriate and hurtful comments. Kevin O’Leary, one of the Dragons from the hit CBC TV show “Dragons’ Den”, is a perfect example of another celebrity who suffers from verbal diarrhea. This week, Kevin criticized an entrepreneur who generously donates a percentage of his Waterless Car Wash sales to the American Wells Fund (a project that builds water wells in Africa). Of course, Kevin is only interested in making money so the thought...

Dress For Success

[caption id="attachment_1493" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Behind the Scenes at the Dragons' Den"][/caption] Maybe I’m old fashioned but I still think that if you want to succeed, you need to dress the part. On Sunday, I was shocked to see how some of the other entrepreneurs dressed for their pitch to the Dragons on the Dragons’ Den. One of the business people was wearing old blue jeans and a sloppy looking t-shirt. Even his hair looked as if he had just crawled out of bed. Perhaps I put too much emphasis on what I wore as well as my make-up and hair...
