Don't Ride Naked to School

Posted by Karyn Climans on

You are probably asking yourself, "What is she talking about?" and I can't blame you. Who would possibly ride naked to school? You'd be surprised. I see it all the time ... parents and kids riding their bikes, scooters, roller blades and skateboards without a safety helmet!

Two years ago, Tail Wags Helmet Covers launched its "Mothers Against Naked Riding" campaign and it's time to remind people of the importance of helmet safety. Back to school is a particularly busy time on the roads.

Heartfelt Condolences

My heart and prayers go out to the family and friends of Erika Lamb, the 16 year old who died from her head injuries while skiing at Blue Mountain. Although she was wearing a safety helmet, the accident was so serious that even her helmet couldn't save her. Unfortunately some people will use this as an excuse or justification for not wearing a helmet. Please remember that although helmets cannot 100% guarantee your safety, they are still the best method we have of protecting your head! Tobogganing Safely

Are you a good role model for your children? Do you believe in practicing what you preach? It's common knowledge for our kids to emulate what they see us doing - monkey see, monkey do! It’s not enough to tell a child to do something unless it’s followed by action. It is more effective if you lead by example; telling your child to put their clothes in the laundry basket is more likely to get done if you show them how it’s done. So why is it common to see kids wearing their safety helmets but not the parents when...

I Should Know Better

Posted by 2 on

I will chalk this experience up to a temporary lapse in judgment on my part. For someone who preaches safety on a regular basis, I know better than to take unnecessary risks especially when participating in active sports. Here's the story: I was riding my bike with my boyfriend (Richard) 3 weekends ago ... not to worry, we were definitely wearing our sports helmets! We enjoyed a long 2 1/2 hour ride from my apartment to the Brick Works in Toronto and back. Along the final stretch of bike trails, Richard and I were feeling the love! Riding side by...
